Canada West was the western portion of the former Province of Canada from 1841 to 1867. Canada West had similar boundaries to the former province of Upper Canada.
The area of Canada West covers most of modern-day southern Ontario, south of Lake Nipissing. The population was comprised primarily of English speaking people living in the former colony of Upper Canada. Canada West was not a political entity as such but a geographic way of referring to the counties of the former Upper Canada, following the merger into the united Province of Canada.
Canada West was given 42 seats in the Legisltive Assembly of Canada, exactly the same number as Canada East.
