Mathieu Dandenault (born February 3, 1976 in Sherbrooke, Québec) plays defense for the Montréal Canadiens of the National Hockey League. He has played for the Detroit Red Wings and the Canadiens in a career that started with the 1995-96 NHL season. After nine seasons with the Red Wings, who drafted him forty-ninth overall in the second round of the 1994 amateur draft, he played for Asiago HC in Italy in 2004-05 (due to the lockout) and upon his return to North America, he signed with the Canadiens, his hometown team.
Both teams Dandenault has played for are Original Six teams, meaning that they were one of the original six hockey teams when the NHL was first founded in 1917. Mathieu is married to Marie-Christine and has one daughter, Amélie. He has won three Stanley Cups, all with the Detroit Red Wings, in 1997, 1998 and 2002.
Dandenault is not an especially offensive defenceman—his career high in points is 25—and despite having played with several high-output lineups in Detroit, his career +/- rating is only 54, and in some seasons it dipped below even. He shoots right-handed, is 6 ft 1 in (185 cm) tall, and weighs 200 lb (91 kg).
