Burscough FC are a football team from Burscough, Lancashire formed in 1946 and play in the Unibond Northern Premier League. They are managed by Liam Watson and recently beat Gillingham 3–2 in the first round of the FA Cup. Substitute striker David Rowan swooped onto a loose ball, and curled it into the Gillingham net from 12 yards in the last minute to send the underdogs through. They also won the FA Trophy in 2003, beating Tamworth 2–1 in the final at Villa Park. They play at Victoria Park which has a capacity of around 2,500. Their nickname is the Linnets.

History

They were formed after the second world war in 1946 and entered the Liverpool County Combination. In only their second season, they won three trophies and in 1952 won the Liverpool Challenge Cup for the second time. 1955-56 saw an amazing achievement as Burscough won the Liverpool First Division which contained the now Premiership side Wigan Athletic. They reached the first round of the FA Cup and were watched by 4,200 fans at Victoria Park as they lost 3–1.
